Place of refuge...

2 Nephi 14:5-6

5 And the Lord will create upon every dwelling-place of mount Zion, and upon her assemblies, a cloud and smoke by day and the shining of a flaming fire by night; for upon all the glory of Zion shall be a defence.
6 And there shall be a tabernacle for a shadow in the daytime from the heat, and for a place of refuge, and a covert from storm and from rain.

During my devotional this morning I read this scripture and I thought of what transpired yesterday.

There were violent protest on the streets of Salt Lake City after an incident in Cincinnati earlier this week. A store owner called police when he alleged that a black man paid for merchandise with counterfeit money. The police pulled over the black man, and a white police officer pinned him to the ground with his knee on his neck for about eight minutes. The black man kept saying, “I can’t breathe." The other police officers present did nothing. The black man, named George died. The police officer has been charged with 3rd degree murder. This sparked protest all over the United States.

Protests in Salt Lake City yesterday

It was a raging storm of violence, looting, cars being burned, property being destroyed, protester throwing projectiles at police officers and at news reporters. Many people were injured and others were arrested. What should have been a peaceful drive-by protest to encourage change turned into a display of hate and ignorance on the part of most of the protesters. It's unlikely anyone will even remember why there were there. The important message of opposing racism and police brutality was overshadow by violence. I kept thinking the solution is not to burn down a city. I was sadden by this as I watch the destruction on television. I prayed for the police and government officials trying to protect their beloved city.

I am grateful for the shelter of my home, it is my refuge. In the great storms of life, we too can find protection. The Lord has said He will send a pillar of fire by night and a shadow in the daytime from the heat. He will provide a place of refuge from the storm. I’m grateful for the promises of the Lord, and for His protection for me and my family.

Batter up!

Colby has been excited to play baseball and we enjoyed watching him at his second game yesterday. He looks so handsome in his uniform. He got several good hits and ran like the wind around the bases.

In other news, Grahm went all day without a diaper!

Memorial Day 2020...

Sunday, May 24, 2020

Why should we remember?

"War is a terrible thing. It's not wars we should remember on Memorial Day, we are remembering those who served and those who gave their last full measure of devotion in order to insure the freedoms we enjoy. There is, among veterans, no more hoped for desire than the desire that their own sons and daughters will never have to suffer the terrors of war, or the effects of war."
Uncle Marion

My uncle, Marion Federer who was killed during WWII.

My Dad, Ivan Lester Federer

I remember my Dad who also served our country.

My brother Marion

I remember my own brother Marion, who served during the Vietnam War. He could barely speak of it. I have always been grateful he returned home safe. I love him.

Over the years, Memorial Day has also become a day to remember any loved ones who have passed away, regardless if they served in the military or not.

What a beautiful day, Tim and I enjoy walking around the cemeteries, and remembering.

For Chris, remembering Big George...

Empty halls...

For the past two weeks I have been helping with student check out. It made me sad to see the halls empty. It was eerily quiet. I hope and pray we can have the school open in August. I'm sure there will be some modification to help everyone stay safe. There have been many ideas tossed around, such as one-way hallways, students and teachers wearing masks, and lunch inside classrooms instead of cafeterias. Students may have their temperatures read before entering the building. There is also the possibly of bringing half the students to school on certain days, with the rest learning from home. I think the students need some kind of normalcy and so we wait.

The bleachers were full with about 1,000 sacks with the contents of the students lockers. By the time I left on Friday, we only had about 25 bags.

"I can't see anything" ~ Grahm

Grahm was trying out the binoculars and said, "I can't see anything." They were backwards but he wouldn't let me turn them around! He is a smilemaker.

No picture Grandma!

Playing a match game with Grandpa.

Grahm ate a whole Honeycrisp apple and wanted more!

Sweet easy going Grey, and Mr. Pop!

The two G's have my heart.

Snow on the mountains...

I went for a walk this morning and there was fresh snow on the mountains. It was chilly too. We also had rain and strong winds that broke a few tree branches.

But everything looks so lush and green. Beautiful Utah!
