'Majulah Singapura'

'Onward Singapore'
(in Malay)

Singapore, officially the Republic of Singapore, is a sovereign island country and city-state in maritime Southeast Asia. The country's territory is composed of one main island, 63 satellite islands and islets, and one outlying islet, the combined area of which has increased by 25% since the country's independence as a result of extensive land reclamation projects. It has the third highest population density in the world. With a multicultural population and recognizing the need to respect cultural identities of the major ethnic groups within the nation, Singapore has four official languages: English, Malay, Mandarin, and Tamil.

Singapore is renowned for having some of the cleanest streets in the world, largely due to a 50,000-strong cleaning workforce employed to keep the streets clean. Singapore is also known for its strict laws on littering, spitting on the streets, vandalism, and public urination that can result in heavy fines and/or a punishment called Corrective Work Order, where offenders are required to pick up litter in public wearing a bright vest.

Christopher is having another adventure, this time in Singapore! He's attending a seminar for his business and as usual having a grand experience.

Missing my handsome son.

Hope for Hayden...

Lisa ~ Hayden ~ Beckham ~ Coast ~ Ellery ~ Abbott

and five month old August!

Saturday morning our our nephew Hayden was on a run and in a very freak accident, fell 40 feet from an overpass near his home.

He is in critical condition and has already had several surgeries. This news sent shock waves through our family, and I know so many heartfelt prayers have been offered for Hayden, Lisa, and their beautiful children.

Hayden is a seminary teacher, a very kind and loving guy. He's also a devoted husband and father.

We have been getting updates from Mark (BeBe) and are grateful for that. The doctors say he could be in the hospital for six to eight weeks. He's intubated and was heavily sedated, but today he has become more responsive and uncomfortable. He has a fever and his heart rate has been over 100 so they did an x-ray of chest. Every day is different and thankfully Mark and Dianna have been there to help Lisa take care of the children so she can go to the hospital often. Lisa is amazingly strong but the days are exhausting.

I offered to bring dinner but the ward family has been taking care of that. Dianna told me not to worry about dinner but would love to see us. Tim and I drove to Farmington on Monday and I'm so glad we did. It was wonderful give Lisa a hug before she headed back to the hospital. We had a nice visit with Mark and Dianna. Tim and I took turns holding Auggie. He's a happy baby, so adorable.

Brothers... comparing necks!

I got Auggie to giggle and smile several times. I would have brought him home with me if he wasn't still nursing, and I think Lisa would have let me.

We are heartbroken for Hayden and have faith and hope that he can have a full recovery. It will just take time. Lisa, Hayden, and their children are constantly in our thoughts and prayers.

Lisa has been interviewed a few times by news reporters. She hopes UDOT will make the bridge a safer place because this isn't the first time someone has fallen in the same area that Hayden did.

FARMINGTON, Utah — A Farmington husband and father of five children is in coma after family and friends say he fell 40 feet off a highway overpass on Saturday.

Hayden Gurman went out for a short run on the morning of September 24th. When his wife, Lisa, hadn't heard from her husband, she looked up his phone to track his location and showed he was at the University of Utah Hospital.

"My heart dropped and I knew something was wrong," Lisa said.

Farmington police showed up shortly after, telling her witnesses saw Hayden climb over the barricade on the overpass over Interstate 15 to get out of the way of traffic, thinking their was a sidewalk on the other side.

However, there wasn't a sidewalk, causing Hayden to fall 40 feet below.

Gurman was life-flighted to the hospital where is in a medically-induced coma and suffering from several fractures.

"It couldn't be real that this was Hayden Gurman, that had, had an accident," said friend Michael Dame.

Dame said he and Hayden had just registered to participate in the Ogden Marathon next spring and decided to start training.

"To say it isn't a miracle is foolishness, I mean, people fall from the top of the ladder and don't survive," said Andy Dame, Michael's younger brother and lifelong friend of Hayden's.

Family and friends say beyond being a devoted husband and father, Gurman is also a great cook, a lover of fitness, and has a passion for teaching.

"Just an angel on earth, perfect, sweet," Lisa described her husband. "Just the most incredible human I've ever known."

Jacob Gold graduated from Viewmont High School last year, and is a former student of Hayden's.

"He's changed my life in so many different ways," said Gold, who is currently a student at Southwestern Oregon Community College. "That guy fights strong and I know he's going to fight for it."

The hope is Gurman will also get to eventually return home to the greatest joys in his life, his wife and kids.

"I just want everyone to know that he is incredible, and he is the real thing, he has a heart of gold," Lisa said.

Colby's birthday dinner...

Sunday we got to show Colby some more birthday love. He wanted Italian Wedding soup and I also made rolls. Tiffani made cookies and Colby enjoyed decorating them. We played at the park, it was a beautiful day.

Colby did a great job putting together the starship I gave him. He's pretty amazing!

Until they are old enough to bear the load...

“Sex,” I was pretty sure, meant whether you were a boy or girl, and “sin” made Tante Jans very angry, but what the two together meant I could not imagine. And so, seated next to Father in the train compartment, I suddenly asked, “Father, what is sexsin?”

He turned to look at me, as he always did when answering a question, but to my surprise he said nothing. At last he stood up, lifted his traveling case from the rack over our heads, and set it on the floor.

“Will you carry it off the train, Corrie?” he said.
I stood up and tugged at it. It was crammed with the watches and spare parts he had purchased that morning.

“It’s too heavy,” I said.

“Yes,” he said. “And it would be a pretty poor father who would ask his little girl to carry such a load. It’s the same way, Corrie, with knowledge. Some knowledge is too heavy for children. When you are older and stronger you can bear it. For now you must trust me to carry it for you.”

- from The Hiding Place: The Story of Corrie Ten Boom

We are asking our children to carry loads that are way too heavy for them. They should not be forced, as children, to see and feel the world through the lens of adults. Innocence is worth protecting and worth fighting for. We need to do our part as teachers, parents and caregivers to carry certain things for them until they are old enough to bear the load.

Ridicleeous!

A few weeks ago I was driving home after picking up Cash, Colby Grey, and Grahm. We stopped for fries and drink. Grey wanted a root beer but McDonald's doesn't have any, and Grahm said that's ridicleeous!

When I saw Grahm sitting in the chair at his soccer game today, I thought, it's so ridicleeous how cute he is!

Double digits for our fun loving Colby...

Colby Mark born at 7:04 this very day ten years ago. He weighed 8 pounds 1 ounce and was 18 inches long. What a wonderful ten years it has been.

I was so grateful I could spend the day with Colbs on Monday. As Colby said, “It was the best day ever.” Colby really is so fun-loving, polite, rarely grumpy, and he wants life to be fair.
I love him a lot!

Colby's expression says it all! We had birthday lunch at Chili's and this burger was so delicious. We both agreed it was the best burger we have ever had!

After lunch we went shopping at Target, walked around Riverwoods, watched the Minions movie, and of course stopped for a birthday shake at JCW's. Then we headed back home to see Grandpa and play a little hockey. Just a perfect day, I didn't want it to end.

I couldn't love Colby more and
I am so grateful to be his grandma!

Happy Birthday Colby!
