Remembering 2012

Last year it was rainy and cold on Memorial Day. But this year it was a sunny, beautiful day! Tim, Chris and I met some of our family at the cemetery in Provo.

It's like a mini family reunion and as it goes lately we don't see each other that often. It's nice to visit and remember our loved ones who have passed away.

 Beautiful Bella!

Chris adores Bella and I can't wait until he has a daughter of his own!

Greta... she's a little ray of sunshine!

Look who's walking! Ezzie is so adorable.

This grave came with a strong warning, "Do not steal our Dad's flowers. We will hunt you down. U R being video taped." It's unfathomable that someone would steal flowers off graves... but there have been reports on the news that it happens.

These pink balloons caught my eye...

Lucy Mae was only 3 years old. Even though I don't know this family, I found myself grieving with them. I'm so thankful to know this life is not the end.

This is the first time in over 20 years that Johnnie Belle did not go to the cemetery. We missed having her with us. We went to visit her at the nursing home on our way home. Tim borrowed Christopher's i-Pad and recorded all of us at the cemetery. She loved it, she smiled and laughed. She said it was better then being there!

This sign is in the physical therapy room. Johnnie Belle is working hard but her progress is still slow.

We missed having Mark, Tiff and Cash with us but they had a fun weekend camping with Tiff's family. It was nice to end the day knowing that they arrived home safe and to get a big hug from Cash. (He got a few boo-boo's on the camping trip).

Just 3 Words

LONE STAR QUILT

This is a quilt that Grandma Federer made for my brother Kenny. When I was in Cheyenne last month he asked me if I would mend some of the places on the quilt where the seams have come apart. He was so happy when I said I could and grateful to allow someone to take it that knows of its priceless value.

Grandma made the quilt in 1976, the year of The United States Bicentennial Celebration. Of course it had to be red, white and blue. I washed the quilt and it really brightened up. It's in great condition for being 36 years old.

Grandma made so many quilts. All of her children and grandchildren were recipients of these treasures.

She even made a few for her great-grandchildren before she died. Grandma made this Flower Garden baby quilt for Christopher. (Tim made the Windsor cradle) I wish I had pictures of all the quilts she made.

Grandma made this gorgeous Six-point Star quilt for my brother Les and my Mom gave it to me after he passed away.

 Green was his favorite color.

Grandma made this quilt in 1975, it was a wedding gift for my brother Ernie and my sister-in-law Marilyn. She had a special knack for coordinating colors. What a beautiful quilt!

She made this one for me, also in 1976. Most of the fabric she used are scraps from dresses my Mom made me. It's called a Flower Garden and I love it.

I spent a summer with Grandma and she taught me how to piece quilts. This was before rotary cutters. She sewed all the pieced together by hand. This was the first quilt I made.

This was one of the last quilts Grandma made in 1984, it was for my Aunt Bernice. I loved sitting on the couch and watching her sew, she never had idle hands. I miss her.

Pinwheel Party

With the help of some of my friends, we had a shower to celebrate the engagement and upcoming wedding of Ariel Walus. The mother of the bride-to-be is a dear friend and one of the most talented, clever women I know. Kim is amazing in every way!

I decided to go with a pinwheel theme and they were fun to make.

In some cultures pinwheels have deep spiritual significance. The Chinese believe the pinwheel is an instrument to turn obstacles into opportunities and are a revered symbol during the Chinese New Year festivities. The symbolic meaning of a pinwheel is "to turn one's luck around." As "luck would have it" Ariel found her handsome prince, she just had to go all the way to New Zealand to meet him!

 We had pinwheel sandwiches...

and my friend Denise made pinwheel cookies. They were cute and delicious!

Ariel's nine day old nephew was among the party goers. Gil is so handsome!

Kim made this darling apron for Ariel.

Ariel will be a beautiful bride!

Ariel chose this gorgeous vintage gown. Since we can't all go to New Zealand to the wedding, it was fun to see it.

And the all important perfect pair of shoes!

Ariel's sister McKenna will be wearing this adorable dress and shoes.

Kim describing how she made this one of kind bouquet.

Kim handmade each one of the flowers with ribbon and added beautiful beads. I have never seen anything like it.

Thank you, thank you to Susan for offering to have the party in her backyard and to my friends Lorie, Meg and Denise for all there help.

Congratulations Ariel and Chip!
