More Splish Splashin'

Grandma found Cash a bigger pool and it was a huge hit!

Getting pretty brave!

Tim and I just love to watch Cash play. We loose track of time and nothing else seems to matter much when he's around. He's pleasant, good natured, really such a good boy and we L-O-V-E him!

For sure it's the simple things that make life so enjoyable.

Quote for the week - Utah Pioneer Day 2011

"It is not enough to study or reenact the accomplishments of our pioneers. We need to identify the great, eternal principles they applied to achieve all they achieved for our benefit and then apply those principles to the challenges of our day. In that way we honor their pioneering efforts, and we also reaffirm our heritage and strengthen its capacity to bless our own posterity and those millions of our Heavenly Father's children who have yet to hear and accept the gospel of Jesus Christ. We are all pioneers in doing so."

(Dallin H. Oaks, "Following the Pioneers," Ensign, Nov. 1997)

It was a long day. My sister Roseanne, my niece Holley and I walked 30 miles through some rough terrain near Guernsey, Wyoming. It was the most beautiful day. Of course the wind was blowing and I was grateful I had my bonnet! Imagining what the pioneers felt like was very easy that day. It was an unforgettable experience.

Almost Wordless Wednesday - Rooster

I love this rooster, it has been chained up at the pawn shop in American Fork for weeks. I think it needs a good home. How about it Carlene... wouldn't "The Colonel" looked good at Kindred Spirits Farm!!

Quote for the Week - Betty Ford

Honoring Betty Ford...
Former First Lady Betty Ford died last week at age 93. I have always admired her strength and courage. She was a breast cancer survivor and recovering addict. She admitted her addiction to drugs and alcohol in an era where the subject was very taboo. She co-founded a treatment center and devoted her life to helping others with addictions.

As I read an account of the funeral service, a poem that she chose to be read moved me.
The poem that Mrs. Ford selected is by Emily Dickinson entitled, "If I can stop one heart from breaking."  This is a short poem, but one with a powerful message.

"If I can stop one heart from breaking,
I shall not live in vain;
If I can ease one life the aching,
Or cool one pain,
Or help one fainting robin
Unto his nest again,
I shall not live in vain."

Katie Bar the Door...

cause Mr. Cash is on the move!

Check out Cash's new car, sweet!

He's pulling himself up on everything. He edges his way around the table in the family room. He will let go for a second and walk to the sofa. He also has taken a few wobbly steps so it won't be long.

We take turns walking around the house with him!

Our guesses for when he will walk unassisted:

Daddy ~ August 12th

Mommy ~ August 14th

G-pa ~ August 18th

G-ma ~ August 15th

Uncle Christopher ~ August 1st

G-ma has a prize for the winner!!

Quote for the Week - I love you this big!

I love you this big
Eyes have never seen... this big
No-one's ever dreamed... this big
And I'll spend the rest of my life
Explaining what words cannot describe but, I'll try
I love you this big

I'll love you to the moon and back

I'll love you all the time
Deeper than the ocean
And higher than the pines.

Smocking 101...

I told my friend Rae Ann awhile back that I wanted to learn something new this year. We were going to try a Zumba class but we decided to take a smocking class instead!! I was excited because I remember my Grandma Federer making beautiful dresses with smocking, even for little boys!!

A little smocking history:
Smocking is an embroidery technique used to gather fabric so that it can stretch. Before elastic, smocking was commonly used in cuffs, bodices, and necklines in garments where buttons were undesirable. Smocking developed in England and has been practised since the Middles Ages and is unusual among embroidery methods in that it was often worn by laborers. Other major embroidery styles are purely decorative and represented status symbols. Smocking was practical for garments to be both form fitting and flexible, hence its name derives from smock — a farmer's work shirt. Smocking was used most extensively in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

I was surprised that I knew the teacher. Eva and I sang in the Relief Society choir at the Conference Center and few years ago.

Eva has made so many beautiful aprons and dresses.

Beautiful blessing dress

Getting started... it was so fun and not as difficult as I imagined it would be.

Rae Ann is a dear friend and expert seamstress.

Well... I finished one row and hopefully I can finish this apron!

We walked out of class and saw this beautiful sunset.

Thanks for a wonderful evening Rae Ann!!

The Nydegger Family ~ cute girls!

Tim helped cook breakfast for about 200 people - pancakes and sausage. Cash enjoyed a little oatmeal!

We enjoyed a leisurely afternoon...

and some of Tim's famous homemade strawberry ice cream.

This Independence Day I hope that we all look back at our past to the brave souls that stood up for what they believed in, and to some who gave their all for our freedoms that we so easily take for granted. I hope you all had a great 4th of July and enjoyed time with family and friends...  being free and independent. God bless you and your family.
