Early out day...

Wednesday around 10:00 there was a problem with the water source at school.  We soon found out that a main water line for Pleasant Grove city was damaged somehow. The principal decided to send us all home. I took advantage of the early out day to hang out with my favorite guys. I had lunch with Cash, Colby, and Grey then we played at a new park. I like early out days!

I having been trying to teach Colby how to whistle with grass just like my Dad taught me. This was the first time Colby was successful. He was so happy.

Cutest monkeys in the whole world!

Conference Notes... Ministering

President Russell M. Nelson
April 2018 | Ministering

A new, holier way…

‘Ministering’ to Replace Home and Visiting Teaching

Young women ages 14–18 will receive more opportunities to serve.

President Russell M. Nelson announced Sunday afternoon that the Church’s home and visiting teaching programs will be replaced by a coordinated, more personalized approach known as “ministering.” I think it’s a wonderful change!

“For months, we have been seeking a better way to minister to the spiritual and temporal needs of our people in the Savior’s way.”

“We have made the decision to retire home teaching and visiting teaching as we have known them. Instead, we will implement a newer, holier approach to caring and ministering to others. We will refer to these efforts simply as ‘ministering.’ ”

“Effective ministering efforts are enabled by the innate gifts of the sisters and by the incomparable power of the priesthood. We all need such protection from the cunning wiles of the adversary.”

Elder Holland and Sister Bingham, will explain how assigned brethren of the priesthood and assigned sisters of the Relief Society and Young Women will now function in serving and watching over members of the Church throughout the world.

The First Presidency and the Twelve are united in endorsing their messages. Gratefully and prayerfully we open this new chapter in the history of the Church.

This new endeavor is overseen jointly by the presidencies of a local congregation’s elders quorum (adult men) and Relief Society (adult women) and, like Saturday evening’s announcement to combine elders quorums and high priests groups, is part of a larger effort to simplify and improve the Church’s ministry.

Unlike the previous programs of home and visiting teaching, ministering does not include a set monthly message in the Church magazines nor a prescribed way to keep in contact, such as in-home, face-to-face visits each month — even though visits are important when they are possible. The new method focuses on flexibility to the needs and circumstances of individuals throughout the world, coupled with quarterly face-to-face interviews between leadership and everyday members about personal and family needs.

These ministering adjustments will be implemented by local leaders as soon as conveniently possible

Grandpa's Woodshop...

I've said this before but Cash, Colby, and Grey like to play with the toys and games we have... but given the chance they would rather make something with Grandpa in his woodshop. Grahm got his first woodworking lesson on Thursday! Cash and Colby made a very cool rubber band gun.

Colby keeping it real!

 Nice work Cash!

Conference Notes... Prophets Speak by the Power of the Holy Spirit

Elder Ulisses Soares April 2018 | Prophets Speak by the Power of the Holy Spirit

Two new apostles were called in the Saturday morning session of General Conference, to filled the vacancies in the Quorum of the Twelve. Elder Gerrit W. Gong and Elder Ulisses Soares were sustained as the newest apostles. Elder Gong is the Church’s first Asian American apostle and Elder Soares is its first Latin American apostle.

Elder Gong’s previous service includes serving in the Asia Area Presidency from 2011 to 2015. Headquartered in Hong Kong, he concluded his time there as the Area President.

He and his wife Susan Lindsay are the parents of four children.

Elder Soares, a native of Brazil, a nation with 1.3 million members of the Church, has previously served in the Presidency of the Seventy. He also served as a counselor in the Africa Southeast Area and President of the Brazil Area. He and his wife Rosana Fernandes are the parents of three children and three grandchildren.

This was Elder Soares first address as an apostle.

Having prophets is a sign of God’s love for his children. They make known the promises and the true nature of God and of Jesus Christ.

Isn’t it a blessing to have prophets, seers, and revelators on earth in these days in which we live, who seek to know the will of the Lord and follow it? It is comforting to know that we are not alone in the world, despite the challenges we face in life. Having prophets is a sign of God’s love for His children. They make known the promises and the true nature of God and of Jesus Christ to Their people. I have learned that through my own personal experiences.

Brothers and sisters, from the bottom of my heart I testify that the prophets speak by the power of the Holy Spirit. They testify of Christ and His divine mission on earth. They represent the mind and heart of the Lord and are called to represent Him and teach us what we must do to return to live in the presence of God and His Son Jesus Christ. We are blessed as we exercise our faith and follow their teachings. By following them, our lives are happier and less complicated, our difficulties and problems are easier to bear, and we create a spiritual armor around us that will protect us from the attacks of the enemy in our day.

I liked this personal story Elder Soares shared about having faith. I wonder if I would have had such great faith. I pray that I will have experiences that will increased my faith.

Eighteen years ago, my wife and I received a phone call from President James E. Faust, then Second Counselor in the First Presidency. He called us to serve as mission president and companion in Portugal. He told us that we had only six weeks before we started the mission. Although we felt unprepared and inadequate, we accepted the call. Our most important concern at the time was to obtain the visas required to serve in that country because, according to past experience, we knew the process took six to eight months to complete.

President Faust then asked if we had faith that the Lord would perform a miracle and that we would be able to solve the visa problem faster. Our answer was a big yes, and we started making the arrangements immediately. We prepared the documents required for the visas, took our three young children, and went to the consulate as fast as we could. A very nice lady met with us there. In reviewing our papers and getting acquainted with what we were going to do in Portugal, she turned to us and asked, “Are you really going to help the people of my country?” We firmly answered yes and explained that we would represent Jesus Christ and testify of Him and His divine mission in the world. We returned there four weeks later, received our visas, and landed in the mission field within the six weeks, as a prophet of the Lord had asked us to do.

On this Easter day, I solemnly testify that Jesus Christ is risen. He lives and He directs this Church on earth through His prophets, seers, and revelators. I testify that He is the Savior and Redeemer of the world and that through Him we can be saved and exalted in the presence of our dear God. I love Him, I adore Him. I want to follow Him and do His will and become more like Him.

Morning view...

I love that this mornings SUNRISE does not
define itself by last nights sunset.
– Steve Maraboli

Reflect on your past but don’t dwell in it. Your truth is the present, this very moment. We are continually blessed with an opportunity every single day to start anew. All we have is now.

Dog days of summer are fun...

I've had a lot of fun with the boys at Provo Beach, and we had a Back to School date there last week. The parking lot was full of chalk art. We were amazed by all the drawings.

Cutest beach bums!

One of the prizes Colby won, he took a few selfies!

Cash went to Lego Camp all week and he really enjoyed it. It was fun hearing about all the things he made. (I had a Back to School date with Cash too but I didn't take pictures. It's always wonderful to have one on one time with the Grands.)

We had a fun birthday celebration for Mark on Sunday. He and the boys made a delicious roast. He wanted cinnamon rolls that I happily made for him. Cash wanted to try making cinnamon bites and they were delicious!

Grahm vs the raspberries!

The haze is better but some of fires are still not contained.

Cash is really the best big brother. He helps feed Grahm, changes his diapers, and plays with him.

He puts Grahm on the cushion and slides him around the room!

My niece sent me these darling pictures of my great-niece Lucy. She's pink-a-licious and a real girly-girl.

And another darling picture of my great-nephews Teigan and Raeland, I miss my Wyoming people.

I really do pray to know who might need my help each day. Tiffani hurt her back a few days ago, and I had feeling to stop by to see what I could do to help. I took the big boys today for several hours so she could rest and get a few things done.

Cash and Colby really do watch out for Grey. They helped him up and down this big green slide a hundreds times! I could here them all laughing and having fun. Cash would put his head on Grey's bum and push him up the slide. It was so cute.

They are so handsome and such good boys.

Christopher sure has a stunning view from his condo. I guess we won't see him for another six months. The Philippines better be good to him.
