To My Husband

November 30, 1981

My forever love

As time goes by, the really important things in life
grow stronger,
more meaningful,
and even more precious...

This is the first time in 28 years that Tim and I will not be together on our anniversary. He has meetings in St. George.

Thanks again for the fun trip to Vegas a few weeks ago. I am glad you chose me!

Haaaaappy Anniversary Tim!!

Quote for the week

...but, at long last, I am beginning to learn that it is the sweet, simple things of life which are the real ones after all...I believe we would be happier to go back to simpler living and more direct thinking. It is the simple things of life that make living worthwhile, the sweet fundamental things such as love and duty, work and rest and living close to nature. There are no hothouse blossoms that can compare in beauty and fragrance with my bouquet of wild flowers.

Thanksgiving 2009

I am not sure how many years it's been but we have enjoyed many Thanksgiving's with Mike, Pam and family.

Brooke is such an amazing wife and mother. She has also become a very creative photographer. She took our family pictures this year and we have one we like! Thanks Brooke.

Best friends always ~ cousins Brad and Chris

Chris will be a great father. He never misses a chance to snuggle up with the little cousins. But really Poppy is irresistible!

Dustin's "man pie!" Not only did he deep fry the perfect turkey again this year, he made this deeeeelicious pie.

Greta woke up from her nap in time to enjoy the feast. She is an angel!

Pam recently had knee surgery and she still manages to put together an incredible Thanksgiving day for all of us. Thanks Pamela Irene!

Oh brothers ~ Mike and Tim

Minie really wanted to have an Easter egg hunt. Soooo cute!

More cousins ~ Robyn, Mark and Tiff

You know I am very thankful for these two!

Vanessa's clever creations!

Tim, Chris, Bob, Tiffani and Mark

Thanksgiving is a holiday filled with traditions. From the foods we eat, to the football games we watch, to the people we spend time with, there is a reassuring comfort to returning to the same patterns year after year. It's one of the things I'm thankful for. I cherish spending Thanksgiving with family. Thanks to everyone for a wonderful day!

Making sense of it all...

I have been deeply affected by the death of this 26 year old (Mark's age) that I don't even know. On Wednesday I heard that he was stuck in a 18-inch crevice inside the Nutty Putty Caves. I knelt to say my prayers that night and prayed that the rescuers would be able to get him out safely. I just knew I would wake up Thursday morning and he would be freed and on his way to celebrate Thanksgiving with his family. That did not happen. He died sometime after midnight. Christopher went to this cave with some of his friends while in high school. He remembers going through that same area and hoping he wouldn't get stuck. He did not enjoy the experience and couldn't wait to get out. Thankfully he did.
This Wednesday Nov. 25, 2009 photo provided by the Utah County Sheriff's Office shows an unidentified volunteer rescuer during a rescue effort in Nutty Putty Cave.
My heart goes out to those who were trying to find a way to get John out of the cave. Approximately 100 Wasatch Front rescue workers tried to free him for over 28 hours. John had a sense of adventure and loved the outdoors ~ it was just a tragic accident.
While attending at BYU, John met his wife Emily and they were married in 2006. They recently found out their second child would be due in June. He was second-year medical student at the University of Virginia and was studying to become a pediatric cardiologist at the time of his death. He had a masterful ability to relate to children.

His funeral is today even though rescue workers have not been able to remove his body.

It has been said that time heals all wounds. I think that love, not time, heals all wounds ...the love of friends and family. Most of all I believe it is knowing that even though we have pain in this life, Heavenly Father is there and our Savior loves us. Following Jesus Christ does bring peace. I hope that the Jones family will feel the loving arms of the one whose birth we celebrate this season around them.

Make every day count. Appreciate every moment and take from it everything that you possibly can, for you may never be able to experience it again... Live Each Day As If it Were Your Last... Tomorrow is Not Promised...

Pre-Thanksgiving Dinner 2009

So Sunday we had a Pre-Thanksgiving dinner.

I made these turkey cookies a few times when Chris and Mark were in grade school. They liked taking them to their classmates. Each one seems to take on a personality all their own!

I enjoyed setting a pretty table with the China Tim bought for me in England.

It is always fun to dine by candlelight!

We have so much to be thankful for.

I love my family.

We enjoyed prime rib, everyone said it was the best to date. We also had a yummy salad with a cranberry flavored dressing, cornbread, stuffed potatoes with bacon and some other tasty side dishes. Dessert was bread pudding with chocolate chips and a really yummy lemon sauce. The food was great but being together is always the best part of the evening!

May your stuffing be tasty

May your turkey be plump,

May your potatoes and gravy

Have never a lump.

May your yams be delicious

And your pies take the prize,

And may your Thanksgiving dinner

Stay off your thighs!

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

With love,

Quote for the week

To those who followed Columbus and Cortez, the New World truly seemed incredible because of the natural endowments. The land often announced itself with a heavy scent miles out into the ocean. Giovanni di Verrazano in 1524 smelled the cedars of the East Coast a hundred leagues out. The men of Henry Hudson's Half Moon were temporarily disarmed by the fragrance of the New Jersey shore, while ships running farther up the coast occasionally swam through large beds of floating flowers. Wherever they came inland they found a rich riot of color and sound, of game and luxuriant vegetation. Had they been other than they were, they might have written a new mythology here. As it was, they took inventory. ~ Frederick Turner

Birthday 2009 - Phase 2, 3, and 4!

Older, yes ...
wiser, not so much!

My Mom always sends the most beautiful cards. They are my favorites and most treasured.

She sent two this year because she had a difficult time deciding which one to send, so sweet!

Another favorite card this year was from Mark and Tiff, I best not say what it said inside but it was funny!

And this one from my friend Barb made me laugh. It said "At our age, thongs are not an option!

With my angel friends
Susan Savage ~ Sharon Lambert ~ Karen Sell

Growing older is much easier with dear friends by your side. For over 20 years our little foursome has enjoyed getting together several times a year. Karen's youngest son just got his mission call to Madagascar!

With those I LOVE the most. Tiff, Mark, Tim and Christopher. Hey we haven't eaten yet and Chris is napping! Gearing up for the P.F. Chang's feast so doubt!

My favorite ~ Kung Pao shrimp!!!

The annual "Gathering of the Goddesses" was once again at Susan's home. She is so generous and a wonderful hostess. Barbara made this masterpiece, Southern Hummingbird Cake. It was divine.

I am so blessed to have many dear friends. We have so much fun together, laughing one minute and crying the next.

Friendship isn't a big thing, it's a million little things!

Lorie Lisonbee ~ Billie Nixon ~ Susan Savage
Cindy Horrocks ~ Denise Nydegger

Barbara Evans ~ Beckie Rainer

Lorie's son recently received his mission call to Chile!

What a wonderful birthday, thanks to my family and friends for making it so!!

Federer Homestead Book - Entry #12

Bernice Louise Federer Wilson

Aunt Bernice was born May 30, 1933. Grandma finally got a girl and she was so happy. Mrs. Garton delivered Aunt Bernice and she always told her she was her girl in a sense, a joy she was deprived of. Aunt Bernice was named for Uncle Frank's (Grandma's brother) wife, Beryl Bernice. She didn't care much for her name as most people could not pronounce it correctly.

The boys were not exactly thrilled with the idea of a baby sister. But Dad did not like to see her mistreated. Aunt Bernice said, "He worshiped the ground my buggy rocked on!" He spent many hours rocking her and comforting when she had a miserable time with allergies and eczema.

Her 9th grade picture. I think she said she used pin curls to get this look.

Beautiful bride. I love Grandma's shoes!

What a pose!

Aunt Bernice always looks like a million bucks!

Aunt Bernice worked at the Wyoming Highway Department for many years in the safety department. I applied for a job there after high school. She told me if I wore a dress I would get the job. Well I did and enjoyed working there for several years.

Don't you love my Farrah Fawcett hair and the tan lines?!

Aunt Bernice with Elizabeth

She is especially at ease with children. She has been a nanny for many years and is loved by the children and parents for her tender care.

I have a special fondness toward Aunt Bernice. We have had many long talks that I will always treasure. She has several qualities that I admire, foremost would be her sense of humor. I laugh and laugh when we talk. She has a amazing memory and I love to here her tell stories. She loves beautiful things and people. She is so talented and can do anything.
