Dimples...

Grandma has dimples...

Mark has dimples and so does Colby...

I think Cash may have had a dimple...

For sure Grahm has a dimple!

Dimples are inherited facial traits that are passed from one generation to the next. Dimples often occur on both the cheeks. A single dimple on one cheek is a rare phenomenon. Whether you have dimples or not, a smile is a wonderful thing! I love to see my grandson's happy faces.

Sandstone to granite...

Yesterday during the Sunday school lesson the teacher asked, "What has turned your sandstone to granite?"

The teacher talked about a time in her life when her faith was shaken to the core. Joan felt like her gospel foundation was on sandstone. She talked about how all she wanted in life was to be married and have a family. She was at a stake conference and felt very alone. She was surrounded by families and felt out of place. They sang the hymn, "How Firm a Foundation."
The soul that on Jesus hath leaned for repose
I will not, I cannot, desert to his foes;
That soul, though all hell should endeavor to shake,
I’ll never, no never, I’ll never, no never,
I’ll never, no never, no never forsake!
The stake president stood and said he wanted to sing the hymn again. Joan felt something. She knew she did not have all the answers, but she knew that God lives and loves her. She felt the power of the Atonement of our Savior. Her foundation was starting to changed to granite. She found strength to endure the heavy burdens in her life. She has stayed faithful and has served in many callings through the years. She never married and is now in her sixties.

“It is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, … when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power … to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation.”

I want my foundation to be granite,
solid and firmly anchored to eternal truths.

So sad...

All week the flag at our school has been flying at half staff. It is to honor of those who lost their lives in a mass shooting that took place in Las Vegas late Sunday night. At least 59 people were killed and 527 were injured after a man opened fire on a country music festival. It's being called the worst mass shooting in modern U.S. history. I have felt sad, angry, and a little scared every time I think about what happened. I have prayed everyday for the families that have been affected by this horrific tragedy. I still believe there is so much good in the world, but I hate that things like happen. I pretty much hate guns.

Decorating with the Grands...

Thursday Cash, Colby, and Grey helped me put out the Halloween decorations. It was especially fun watching Grey take things out of the bins. He was so excited to see all the decorations. They really did help me with all the decorating. We painted pumpkins too and Cash made a cute game, pin the nose on the ghost. What a wonderful day!

It was Colby's idea to put Smarties in the pumpkins!

I didn't get a picture of Cash, next time.

Almost finished...

The Big Toy is almost finished. It's been wonderful watching Cash, Colby, and Grey playing on their new playset. Tim has really enjoyed helping Mark put it together. Mark needs to find another project for Grandpa! What a great investment, years of fun for the Grands. The Fall weather has been perfect for playing outside. October is suppose to be warmer than usual, so the boys will have many more days of outdoor enjoyment.

 Success, have a blast boys!

He could have called ten thousand angels...

Matthew 26:53

50And Jesus said unto him, Friend, wherefore art thou come? Then came they, and laid hands on Jesus, and took him. 51And, behold, one of them which were with Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and struck a servant of the high priest's, and smote off his ear. 52Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.

53Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?

54But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be? 55In that same hour said Jesus to the multitudes, Are ye come out as against a thief with swords and staves for to take me? I sat daily with you teaching in the temple, and ye laid no hold on me. 56But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled.

Legion is a military term of the roman army. The number of soldiers/legionaries in a legion varied during the times of the roman empire but it was always in the order of several thousands. Therefore 12 legions of angels may represent ten thousand or even more angels.

I love gospel songs, especially when sung by the Gaither Vocal Band. I listened to this one the other day. I get chills as I listen to the lyrics. "He could have called ten thousand angels... but he died alone for you and me"

Ten Thousand Angels

They bound the hands of Jesus in the garden where he pray
They led him through the street in shame
They spat upon the Savior so pure and free from sin
They said crucify him he's to blame
He could have called ten thousand angels to destroy the world and set him free
He could have called ten thousand angels but he died alone for you and me
Upon his precious head they placed a crown of thorns
They laughed and said behold the king
They struck him and they cursed him and mocked his holy name
And all alone he suffered everything
He could have called ten thousand angels to destroy the world and set him free
He could have called ten thousand angels...

Elder James E. Talmage tells us that what Christ suffered was not merely a physical pain, nor a mental anguish, but “a spiritual agony of soul such as only God was capable of experiencing.” This becomes all the more unfathomable when we recognize that the Savior had the ability to stop His suffering at any moment. He says to Peter after the mob comes to get him, “Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and He shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?” (Matthew 26:53) Those legions of angels were ever available to Him. The crowd taunts Him about his powers, about destroying and building the temple. In saying so not only do they not understand His meaning, but they are mentioning only the smallest part of what He is capable of. The God whose creations include this world has infinite power and glory. As Christ later tells Pilate, “Thou couldst have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above.” (John 19: 10)
Here love and power come together in an incomprehensible way. It is because of His power that He can suffer the sins of mankind, that He could literally defeat death. It is because of His love that He is willing to do so.
The Book of Mormon prophet Abinadi taught, “The grave hath no victory, and the sting of death is swallowed up in Christ. He is the light and the life of the world; yea, a light that is endless, that can never be darkened; yea, and also a life which is endless, that there can be no more death” (Mosiah 16:8-9)
He is risen! It is an ending that is endless, a love that knows no bounds, suffering that ends in the ultimate triumph over evil and death.
