Sandstone to granite...

Yesterday during the Sunday school lesson the teacher asked, "What has turned your sandstone to granite?"

The teacher talked about a time in her life when her faith was shaken to the core. Joan felt like her gospel foundation was on sandstone. She talked about how all she wanted in life was to be married and have a family. She was at a stake conference and felt very alone. She was surrounded by families and felt out of place. They sang the hymn, "How Firm a Foundation."
The soul that on Jesus hath leaned for repose
I will not, I cannot, desert to his foes;
That soul, though all hell should endeavor to shake,
I’ll never, no never, I’ll never, no never,
I’ll never, no never, no never forsake!
The stake president stood and said he wanted to sing the hymn again. Joan felt something. She knew she did not have all the answers, but she knew that God lives and loves her. She felt the power of the Atonement of our Savior. Her foundation was starting to changed to granite. She found strength to endure the heavy burdens in her life. She has stayed faithful and has served in many callings through the years. She never married and is now in her sixties.

“It is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, … when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power … to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation.”

I want my foundation to be granite,
solid and firmly anchored to eternal truths.
