I walked by this woodpile and for some reason I thought of my Dad and brothers. I don't know how many pieces of wood they cut and chopped every year, so we could be prepared for winter. Being prepared is not just old fashioned wisdom. I wonder if Dad ever said, That wood isn't going to split itself! I'm sure my Dad and brothers started splitting wood way before it was cold outside. We had to put up firewood or it would have been very cold inside our house. We didn't have a furnace. I don't imagine splitting wood is a fun task. But I sure am grateful to my Dad and brothers for making sure we had a big woodpile before winter came.
