COVID-19 Christmas Poem

As always my Christmas poem is dedicated to
Grandma Federer, she loved poetry and quotes.

COVID-19 Christmas Poem

Just like it usually does January brought some snow

The trees and mountains seem to sparkle and glow

February came and the days went by with little worry

We focused on family and tried not to be in hurry

March came and for a few weeks life was fine

Then all of the sudden things turned on a dime

A novel virus called COVID-19 was spreading through the nation

All of the sudden churches and schools were closed but it wasn’t a vacation

We worried if we had enough food, water, and what could we spare

People were hoarding toilet paper and the stores shelves were bare

The virus was very contagious so wearing a mask was a must

We washed our hands, avoided crowds, and tried to trust

Not since 1918 has the country had a pandemic and it gave us a start

We were told to practice social distancing and stay six feet apart

Zoom meetings were used for distance learning and to keep in touch

It was a new normal but somedays it felt like too much

We prayed for our family, friends, and healthcare workers to stay well

People still got sick and had to quarantine, some even lost their sense of smell

Scientists and medical experts worked at warp speed

A vaccine to slow the spread is what we need

There was much uncertainty but still the blessings came

Slowing down and spending more time together became the aim

For some of us, this year seemed about a decade long

With many simple day-to-day activities cancelled, it was hard to be strong

Through it all we still have faith in God and every reason to hope

These precious gifts give comfort and help us cope

We will conquer the pandemic and the future will look bright

We will remember what we learned and things again will be right

There’s light at the end of the tunnel for a weary world at last

Jesus does know our needs and these difficult times will soon be in the past

With joy in our hearts we welcome this Christmas season

Born in stable, cradled in a manager, He is the reason

Have a wonderful Christmas!

With love,

Eileen and Tim
