First care...

"For it was his first care to put an end to such contentions and dissensions among the people; …"
Alma 51:16

I hate contention and confrontation. I know when I was young I fought with my siblings sometimes, it happens in all families. Chris and Mark fought over toys, who got the biggest piece of cake, or what they wanted to watch on TV. My first reaction when Chris and Mark were fighting was to step in quickly, so I could mediate the situation. Hopefully, the problem would be resolved quickly and we would continue the day in peace. I taught them to pray, “help us to have love and harmony in our home.” I wanted the Spirit to be in our home. It was my first care. If I feel contention arise in any situation, it is my first care to put an end to it. President Nelson said, “In coming days, it will not be possible to survive spiritually without the guiding, directing, comforting, and the constant influence of the Holy Ghost” (Ensign, May 2018). There is so much contention in our world today. In order to have the constant influence of the Holy Ghost, we need to put an end to contention, which is one of the quickest ways to lose the Spirit. It must be our first care.
