Wind.Fire.Virus.Promise

September 2, 2020
Hurricane-force winds wreaked havoc across northern Utah on Tuesday, killing one resident, toppling hundreds of huge trees, closing schools and knocking out the power for more than 170,000 homes and businesses. Gusts reaching at least 99 mph were recorded with the worst winds concentrated north of Salt Lake County, according to the National Weather Service. Thankfully the wind was not that bad were we live.

As of September 11, 2020, a total of 7,718 fires have burned 3,354,234 acres, more than 3% of the state's roughly 100 million acres of land, making 2020 the largest wildfire season recorded in California history, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. There are also numerous fires burning on Oregon.

This morning I saw smoke in the skies again. There is fire burning on Battle Mountain near Pleasant Grove. It was eerie to see the sky and smell the smoke. This was the hottest summer on record and I can't remember the last time it rained.

The COVID-19 battle is still raging on with no real end in sight. We have had a few positive cases at school.

“Dear friends, the road ahead may be bumpy, but our destination is serene and secure. So, fasten your seatbelt, hang on through the bumps, and do what’s right. Your reward will be eternal. The Lord made a promise to the Saints in 1831 that still applies today. “Wherefore, be of good cheer, and do not fear, for I the Lord am with you, and will stand by you; and ye shall bear record of me, even Jesus Christ, that I am the Son of the living God, that I was, that I am, and that I am to come’ (Doctrine and Covenants 68:6).”
