How will you light the world?
I printed off the Light the World calendar tonight, something I wish I would have done on December 1st. The church started this campaign last year, In 25 Ways Over 25 days. You are suppose to use the calendar for inspiration to plan ways to serve and be a light... share the light of Christ. I had just finished reading the scripture for December 1st, "Freely ye have received, freely give" when I heard a soft knock at the door. I thought it was our home teachers, but when I opened the door I saw a man probably in his late fifties standing there. He was wearing an apron filled with spatulas. He said that his family was in need and was selling high quality spatulas for $5.00.
I told him I would get some money out of my wallet. I'm not sure how much money was in there, I just gave him all I had. I thought of the courage and humility it took for that father to go door to door to try and sell enough spatulas to maybe provide a meager Christmas for his family. Maybe he needed the money to pay overdue bills. I felt sad that I haven't been more of light. I try to be a light to my family, but I haven't been seeking other opportunities to serve. I did give a donation to Sub-for-Santa at school but I could do so much more.
